Sadie's Recovery Aug 20 - 26 2002 |
| Well Sadie's first week of recovery feels like a month, we put Sadie in for surgery on Monday 19th August and picked her up the following morning. This was the first night she has ever been away from us, but I don't think the little girl knew anything about it as she was so drowsy from the morphine (via the fentanyl patch applied to her right rear leg). Sadie was required to rest and have no activity for the next 8 - 10 weeks, only walking to do her business, she was also required to keep the fentanyl patch on for the first three days. During this this time she was extremely groggy with no desire to eat, in fact the only thing she would eat was a small mixture of sardines and hot dog, I had to carry her to go out to do #1 and #2 was not happening. |

| On the Friday following her surgery we removed the dressing and the fentanyl patch, at this time she started her twice daily dose of rimadyl, we observed at this time that one of the thirteen staples securing her incision had broken loose. By day five #2 business was achieved, by the end of the first week three of the staples had fallen out but the incision was looking good with no bleeding or seeping (which we were expecting) and Sadie was looking good. |
